The airport operates domestic and international flights. From April to early November, there are numerous seasonal and charter flights to Pula Airport, making it an important gateway for tourists visiting Istria and the surrounding coastal areas.

From the airport, visitors can reach the city centre by shuttle bus, taxi or private transfer. For travellers who cannot find a suitable direct flight, Zagreb Airport is another option, followed by a journey to Pula by road or public transport.

More information: https://airport-pula.hr/en/

Direct connections to Pula (source: Pula airport web site, June 2026)

By road (car and intercity bus)

Pula is well connected to other Croatian cities and neighbouring European countries by road.

Travellers driving from Zagreb can take the A1 motorway towards Bosiljevo, continue on the A6 motorway towards Rijeka, and then follow the A7 and A8 motorways via the Učka Tunnel before joining the A9 motorway towards Pula. The journey from Zagreb to Pula takes approximately 3 hours, depending on traffic and stops.

Intercity buses connect Pula with major Croatian cities, including Zagreb and Rijeka, as well as selected destinations in neighbouring countries. The journey from Zagreb typically takes around 4 to 5 hours, depending on the operator and traffic. For current routes and timetables, travellers should check the relevant bus operators.

By train

Travelling to Pula by train is generally not recommended, as rail connections are limited and journeys often require several transfers. Visitors are therefore advised to consider road transport, particularly intercity buses or car rental, as more convenient alternatives for reaching Pula.

By sea

Pula can also be reached by sea, as its harbour welcomes passenger boats and seasonal ferry or catamaran services. During the tourist season, connections may be available from destinations along the Croatian coast and from Italy, depending on the route and operator. (For example, ferry from Venice, Italy.) Since international and coastal services can vary throughout the year, visitors should check current timetables and routes before travelling.

Ferry from Venice, Italy (source: Adriatic Lines, June 2026)

Language and currency

Pula is officially bilingual in Croatian and Italian, meaning public signs, municipal documents, and institutional names appear in both languages.

Croatia uses euro (EUR) as currency. Major debit and credit cards are widely accepted in Pula, including at hotels, restaurants, shops and tourist attractions. However, it is advisable to carry some cash for smaller purchases, local markets and places that may not accept card payments.

If you have a permanent non-EU residence and are planning to do some shopping during your stay in Croatia, you may be interested to learn some tips and guidelines for tax free shopping.

Electricity, plugs and sockets

Electrical supply is 230 V, 50 Hz AC. Croatia uses the standard European (round-pronged) plugs and power sockets. In technical terms, sockets are “type C” or “type F” (also known as “Schuko”), and they work with corresponding plugs.

Visa requirements

Citizens of some countries require a visa to enter Croatia. As Croatia is part of the Schengen Area, entry requirements generally depend on the traveller’s nationality, purpose of visit and length of stay.
